Third-grade students from 11 Westerville City Schools elementaries are celebrating world languages and cultures through song in special community concerts at 7 p.m. Nov. 19, Nov. 20 and Nov. 21 at Westerville Central High School.

National School Psychology Week, which runs from Nov. 11 to Nov. 15, celebrates the contributions of school psychologists and the role they play in schools and communities. It is also an annual opportunity to recognize school psychologists' work to help children thrive in school, at home and in life. 

Ahead of their unit on world drumming, fifth-graders at Cherrington Elementary attended the Cirque Kalabanté: Afrique en Cirque show during its stop at the Southern Theater in Columbus on Oct. 22.

Starting Monday, schools throughout the district are rolling out various activities and events to build community and foster a sense of belonging in honor of Start with Hello Week.

Created by the Sandy Hook Promise organization, Start with Hello Week runs Sept. 16-20 and is focused on helping students build empathy, healthy relationships and social awareness through social-emotional lessons and activities.

The newest members at several Westerville City Schools elementaries have spent the past week starting to build relationships in their school communities.

The Westerville City School District Board of Education on Monday, July 8, 2024, voted unanimously to request additional funding for facilities and operations by placing a combined levy and bond issue on the Nov. 5 ballot. 

The Westerville City Schools’ new Strategic Plan serves as a road map to guide and prioritize the district’s most critical work in the coming years.

The Westerville City School District (WCSD) Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Angie Hamberg as the next Superintendent of Schools at Monday’s meeting.

Marsha Siefker, a school counselor at Cherrington Elementary, and Nikki Wheeler, a school counselor at Heritage Middle School, have been named neighborhood bridges’ Advocates of the Year for the 2023-24 school year. 

Westerville City Schools students have multiple opportunities to receive meals over the summer. 
The district is participating in the Summer Food Service Program.

Madison Adams, a second-grader in Misty Ronyak’s class at Cherrington Elementary, proposed the winning theme for the Rotary Club of Westerville’s 2024 Independence Day Parade:"Red, White and Blue....America!  For Me and You!" 

The Westerville Education Association honored educators at its annual Spring Reception on Wednesday, recognizing the 2023-24 Educators of the Year and celebrating the 14 teachers retiring this spring.

Cherrington Elementary music teacher Julie Porretta is one of four Central Ohio educators who received the Columbus Symphony 2024 Music Educator Award, which honors individuals for their dedication to music education and their efforts promoting a greater understanding of and appreciation for music education.

Parents and caregivers planning to attend Westerville City School District’s upcoming Parent Prep workshop series no longer have to register for sessions in advance. During the workshop events on Feb. 10 at Minerva Park Middle School and March 9 at Westerville Central High School, attendees can create their own schedule, whether it’s attending one session or five.

Newly-elected board member Louise Valentine and re-elected board member Jennifer Aultman were sworn into office of the Westerville City Schools Board of Education at an organizational/regular meeting on Jan. 8. 

During the Westerville City Schools Board of Education organizational meeting on Jan. 8, Kristy Meyer was elected president while Jennifer Aultman was elected vice president.

The Board of Education also approved the 2024 meeting calendar.

Westerville families are invited to the Westerville Parent Council’s second annual card tournament from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 10 at Westerville North High School.

The Westerville City Schools Board of Education will convene in an organizational/regular meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8 at the district's Early Learning Center, 936 Eastwind Drive, in Westerville.

A middle school poetry slam, a mock grocery store, and a community-wide event that celebrates African-American literature and student voices are among the nine proposals awarded a 2023 Fall Grant from the Westerville Education Foundation (WEF). Another four projects received four special WEF grants.

As part of the Westerville City School District’s Parent Prep workshop series, parents and caregivers can take sessions on a variety of topics including mindful parenting, digital safety, conflict resolution, substance education and college and career readiness. 

Starting Tuesday, Jan. 9, Westerville students, staff and community members can nominate district staff and adult volunteers for a Great Educator Mentor (GEM) Award, which is presented to individuals who go the extra mile to make a positive impact in the classroom and schools.

Parents or guardians wishing to apply to have their children attend a school different from their school of attendance must complete and submit an Intra-district Open Enrollment Application.

The Columbus Symphony is currently accepting online nominations for its annual Music Educator Awards, honoring individuals making a difference in our community through their dedication to music education and efforts to promote a greater understanding of and appreciation for music education. Four awards will be given to exemplary music educators in the categories of elementary, secondary, private/community-based, and lifetime achievement.

Throughout the district, Westerville students and staff have raised thousands of dollars, collected hundreds of donations to support families — and animals — in need. 

Fifteen Westerville City Schools employees were honored for their contributions to students, dedication to their schools and their commitment to district values as part of the A+ Award recognition at Monday’s school board meeting.

Amid uncertainty in state funding, unexpected expenses and legislative changes, Westerville City School District has been able to stretch funds from a 5.9-mill levy voters approved in 2019 and delay deficit spending longer than originally anticipated. 

Since October, the inaugural members of Hawthorne Elementary’s Ruling Our Experiences (ROX) girls group have been gathering each week to explore topics to help them navigate relationships, experiences and decisions.

Westerville community members interested in acquiring skills needed to help prevent suicide can participate in a virtual training hosted by Westerville City Schools, in partnership with the Westerville Education Challenge.

Cherrington Elementary staff welcomed incoming kindergarteners and their families for a Popsicles on the Playground event last month, where school staff could begin building relationships with some of the newest members to the school community.

The Westerville City School District Records Commission will hold its annual meeting at 5:50 p.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023, in the Board Training Room of the district's Early Learning Center, located at 936 Eastwind Drive.

Westerville families can enjoy hands-on educational activities with WOSU Classroom as part of Second Saturday Kids Day during the Columbus Arts Festival 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 10 in front of COSI.
